The Advantage of Giving Back
As we reflect on 2018, we’d like to open up about how we give back to our community.
Giving back is important to us here at Advantage Emblem & Screen Printing. We aren’t trying to brag, but simply hoping to shed some light on our partnerships in and around Duluth, Minnesota.
Spotlight on Our Partners
Our company is a proud sponsor of numerous local organizations. From nationally-renowned running races to local tourism offices, we cannot emphasize enough how much we enjoy collaborating with each and every one of our partners.
This is because we value the work they do, what they stand for, and how they themselves are giving back. Here’s the lowdown on some of these organizations:
Grandma’s Marathon & Young Athletes Foundation
What could be better (or more grueling) than a scenic running race along the North Shore of Lake Superior? Grandma’s Marathon has come a long way since its inaugural 1977 event, having grown from 150 participants to more than 18,000 in 2018.
The event was named after its first-ever sponsor, the Duluth-based Grandma’s Restaurants. Today, Grandma’s Marathon-Duluth, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and we are their official printer, merchandiser, and a sponsor in our own right.
Those Grandma’s Marathon and Gary Bjorklund Half Marathon t-shirts you see around town—maybe even across the country? Advantage is behind that apparel, and we love printing the organization’s materials and overseeing their merchandising needs.
Why Grandma’s? First of all, we believe in their message. Grandma’s Marathon staff explain that race day is “a moment where runners of all calibers come together to celebrate the vigor of the human spirit.”
This resonates with us. Yet, there’s a lot more to the nonprofit than race day.
Through the Young Athletes Foundation (YAF), Grandma’s Marathon also makes a point of celebrating young athletes. The YAF inspires kids to make healthy habits, and has donated more than $1 million to local nonprofit youth sports organizations. At Advantage, we couldn’t be happier about this initiative.
We collaborate with the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) nationwide. (The same thing applies to the Girl Scouts of the USA, although in this post we’re going to focus on a specific branch of the BSA.)
Which Council do we sponsor? The Voyageurs Area Council, which serves Boy Scouts in 13 Minnesota counties, three Wisconsin counties, and one county in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Advantage is the Council’s primary merchandise supplier, and we sponsor a number of events they host throughout the year. From their Holiday Social to the annual Council Camporall, this organization is serious about serving the greater community.
We are stoked about this. And before we wrap it up, here’s a brief overview from our partner’s website:
“Scouts do stuff. They build things. Play with purpose. Make friends and work together. Set goals and achieve them. They go places. Physically. Mentally. Spiritually. These life-changing experiences—and the confidence they provide—form a foundation a Scout can stand on to embrace opportunity and overcome obstacles in life.”
Clearly, the BSA is doing remarkable things. Thanks, Voyageurs Area Council, for joining forces with us!
Are you familiar with the Duluth Huskies? Advantage works closely with the team, made up of collegiate baseball players, and serves as their main merchandise supplier.
We’re a bit biased, but don’t those blue and white warm up tops look good? (Well, the Huskies play a crucial role in making them look good.)
Our local baseball players are competitive, athletic, and devoted to their fans. A member of the Northwoods League—a summer baseball legaue for which all players must have NCAA eligibility—the Huskies keep busy playing 72 games per season.
The Duluth Huskies took home the 2018 Northwoods League North Divisional Championship. Congrats on a great season and we look forward to another one this year!
Visit this link for more information on the Huskies, including directions, dates for their 2019 games, ticket prices, and even their green practices. We appreciate this team’s emphasis on sustainability, and laud them for their commitment to waste reduction, energy conservation, and eco-friendly design.
Other Organizations to Showcase
At Advantage, our sponsorships and partnerships run deep—they don’t end with the three organizations listed above. Here are a few other local partners for whom we’re very grateful:
- NorthShore Inline Marathon
- American Heart Association
- Minnesota Ballet
- Bentleyville “Tour of Lights”
- Duluth Central Little League
- Greater Downtown Council
- Visit Duluth
In closing, we’d like to give a warm thank-you to all of our partners and congratulate them on another year of hard work. Well done, team!
